Scoopbooks: The Recruiting Guide to Investment Banking

As an objective source of information on investment banking interviews and the associated recruiting process, we endeavor to provide our audience with the information necessary to excel in interviews and land jobs as analysts and associates. After reading Scoopbooks' guide to interviews and the recruiting process, cover-to-cover, I can honestly recommend this guide to every junior-banker hopeful that dreams of working in the investment banking division of any bulge bracket, middle market, or boutique investment bank.

Those of us with siblings, parents, relatives or close friends who have worked in banking naturally have a leg up on the competition because we are privy to the insiders take on the entire recruiting process. The first two parts of the book (The Recruiting Season and Life For A Junior Banker) completely level the playing field because the pages in these sections embody what your brother, dad, friend or relative might tell you. You still need this book even if someone close to you is willing to give you the low-down on the recruiting process; you will be THAT much more prepared.

Part 3 of the book is a nice refresher for the technical aspects of interviews. It breaks things down into the fundamentals and would probably be helpful for non-finance majors (like myself once upon a time). Let me be clear, there are lots of resources that provide this sort of information; Part 1 and Part 2 of the book is the reason for buying it. The book costs $29.95 U.S. and is worth every dime. There might be a few copies available on Amazon for cheaper but buying through Scoopbooks' direct site will probably be more fruitful: http://www.scoopbooks.com/

I've seen other comments on another website but this book discourages all the students who are not going to Harvard or prinston.

To the comment above: I completely disagree. Maybe you heard that somewhere but if you actually read the book you would know. The author encourages all "non-traditional" candidates to apply for banking jobs. The author suggests that opportunities in banking have never been so available to non-core recruiting school students and students of diverse ethnic and racial backgrounds.

Topics on investment banking are really hard to find from good authors. As it is a tough subject not everyone has a command on it.
Getting free quality online material will be quite hard.

Very good site you have created. The recruiting guide to investment banking provides insights into many of the formal and informal aspects of working on wall street. Thanks a lot for sharing with us...

I totally agree with your recommendation for Wall Street Prep, with one caveat.

I believe Wall Street Prep is the best provider of corporate finance training (i.e. M&A, LBO related training).

For those interested in project finance training (including a lot of free material), you might want to check out the Financial Modelling Training Video Financial Modelling.

Many Investment Banking firms offer professionals whose perspective on any engagement is limited to their background and experience primarily as bankers - a financial perspective singularly focused on a specific transaction.

Hi admin,
I really like it, I have also a blog which is related with you, which is about Newark Investment Properties For Sale.
The business plan is to make minimal investments fixing up the house, and then rent out the house to somebody with sub par credit that can?t get a loan for their own house.
investors follow this methodology and buy an income property like an apartment building and will make larger profits thanks to economies of scale.
